Write your Cover letter

These days most cover letters and resumes with a plain white background [unless cover letters and resumes are customized for media or fashion jobs] are being emailed to the prospective employer. Use a white executive bond paper to print your cover letter on and ensure that it fit only on one side of the paper.

Paragraphs of a cover letter

The basic paragraphs of a cover letter are as discussed below:

Heading

Ensure that the heading of the cover letter and resume should be identical and includes your name and contact information.

Address your cover letter to the appropriate person and his / her correct designation. It’s always better to not write the interviews designation if you do not know his / her designation. Your cover letter should begin with ‘Dear ms / Mr. ABCD’. Use a colon after the name.

Body

Second paragraph is the Body of your cover letter. Here you have to briefly highlight and explain how you are qualifying for the job that you are applying for. Highlight those skills that match the employer’s specific needs. Mention only those skills that will give the impression that you are the perfect candidate for the job.

Closing paragraph

In the closing paragraph write audacious statements indicating that you are a strong candidate for the job position and close your cover letter by requesting a meeting with the interviewer at their earliest convenience.

End your cover letter with: Sincerely

A comma isn’t necessary after sincerely, but you can use it if you want to. Leave three / four lines and then write your full name. Leave one line after name and write ‘enclosure’ indicating the documents you are attaching along with this cover letter.

After you have finished writing, read it again. Look out for spelling, grammatical or typo errors. Justify to align text on the page for a good looking presentation.
