EMPLOYMENT SERVICES
DET provides employment services in the state through a network of Employment Exchanges/ Offices. There are 41 employment exchanges in the state viz.
- Registration and placement services to all the job-seekers who are normal resident of that district are available at 26 District Employment Exchanges at Mehsana, Nadiad, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Gandhinagar, Palanpur, Himmatnagar, Godhra, Ahwa-Dangs, Valsad, Bharuch, Amreli, Junagadh, Surendranagar , Rajpipla , Dahod, Porbandar, Patan, Navsari, Tapi-Vyara, Anand and Bhuj.
- In order to facilitate employment registration and placement services in the vicinity of Scheduled Tribe majority areas, there are 5 exclusive Town Employment Exchanges at Khedbrahma, Chhota-Udepur, Dharampur, Songadh, Mandvi.
- Similarly, in order to facilitate employment registration and placement services to those jobseekers having very high educational qualifications, there are 8 University Employment Information and Guidance Bureaus (UEBs) covering one or more districts and are situated at the following locations:

Employment Exchange For Women:
Considering the reservation quota of 30% for women in the state Government and relaxation in the Age limit for five years in state Government Services for women, the state government has started two employment exchanges exclusively for women at Ahmedabad and Jamnagar from year 2007-08. These Employment Exchanges also give vocational guidance and counseling to the women candidates.
Regional Offices:
For the ease of administrative supervision of the functioning of employment exchanges/ offices, the state has been divided in 4 regions and the Regional offices are at Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot.
Rojgar Sahay Kendras (RSK):
This is a unique concept for extension of employment services through public- private partnership. Recognizing the fact that the present employment exchange set up in the state has not been very successful in obtaining placements in the non-government sector, which incidentally is the largest employer in the country.
Therefore, the state government has decided to share the jobseeker’s database with prospective employers, in addition to the present set up including this web site, through Rojgar Sahay Kendras too. These RSKs are authorized to provide employment services to the jobseekers as well.
(A) FUNCTIONS OF THE EMPLOYMENT EXCHANGES
For Jobseekers:
- Registration and renewal of jobseeker’s registration and now it is online at this website.
- Vacancy notification and submission and the details will be available online at this website.
- Employment Market Information and the establishments can update their quarterly information on line at this website.
- Vocational Guidance to the jobseekers and now relevant information is also available at this website in ‘Career and Vocational Guidance’ module.
Facilities and Schemes for the physically handicapped
In addition to the above mentioned employment services at Special Employment Exchanges for Physically Handicapped persons, various other schemes and incentives provided by other departments of the Government to them are:
- Railway concessions
- Free Traveling by bus
- Self Employment Financial Assistance
Vocational Rehabilitation Center for physically handicapped Women
There are two such centers currently functioning – one at Ahmedabad and the other at Vadodara. These are functioning under the auspices of the Ministry of Labour, Govt. of India. Psychological tests are undertaken to assess the IQ and determine residual physical abilities. Based on the results, the most suitable vocation is suggested. Once trained, self-employment camps and placement activities are also organized.
OTHER SCHEMES
DET has various schemes for the benefit of the jobseekers in general and their details are as under:
Transport Fare to Unemployed Candidates
Jobseekers sponsored through the Employment Exchanges against the notified vacancies are given to and fro State Transport (ST) fare through issuing of coupons, so that they can attend the job interview/ tests. Benefit of this scheme is limited to the State of Gujarat and the same is given irrespective of the cost and annual income of the jobseeker’s family.
Organizing Recruitment (in Armed Forces) rallies for Gujarati Youths
In order to ensure full utilization of the vacancy quota of Jawan (Non Commissioned Officer) allotted to the state and to enhance the recruitment opportunities of Gujarati youths in the Armed forces, recruitment rallies are organized at different district head quarters periodically. Matriculate Gujarati boys between the age group of 17½ to 21 are eligible to participate in such rallies. Details regarding the place and the dates of these rallies are available with all the Employment Exchanges and also at their web page’s news bulletin board. All those who fulfill the preliminary requirements of age, education and physical standards are eligible to attend Rally

Recruitment in The Indian Air Force
For recruitment to the Indian Air Force, specially prescribed tests are conducted. Matriculates, HSC pass (with science subjects) and Diploma Holders in Engineering Faculties are eligible for these tests. Special arrangements are made with the Airmen Services Selection Board to conduct these tests at district level. Details of the test schedules and other related in formation is available with all the Employment Exchanges and also at t heir web page’s news bulletin board.
Pre-service (for recruitment in Armed Forces) Training Classes
As a logical extension to above recruitment r allies and in order to improve the recruitment chances of the job-seekers as Jawan in Indian Armed Forces DET, in co-operation with educational organizations, conducts Pre-service training classes inputs on maths, Hindi and English are provided to the job-seekers.
Industrial “Bharti Mela” (Drive for recruitment in Industries)
With an object of bringing suitable job-seekers and the potentially prospective Employer together and face-to-face, Industrial Bharti Mela’s are organized in the industrial estates for skilled-unskilled, technical candidates and trainees with the active co-operation of the Industrial Associations, Chambers of Commerce and Productivity Councils. The Employment Officer, who plays a pro-active role, contacts the industries in the private sector for their requirement of personnel. He then calls those job-seekers registered at the exchanges and who possess the required qualifications to the Bharti Mela, where the private employers take their interviews. Advertisements of these Bharti Melas are released in the local dailies as well as the information of these Melas is available at the concerned Employment Exchanges and also at their web page’s news bulletin.
Overseas Job Information and Facilitation Center
Now a days the world reqires intelligent and skilled manpower and Gujarati youth possess this skill. Recently there is a high demand of technical manpower in various countries. The state government has started Overseas Job Information and Fcilitation Center at “Office of Assistant Director (Employment), O-4, New Mental Campus, Mehaninagar, Ahmedabad – 380016 ” to give information to student

Self-Employment Motivation Camps (Prerna Shibirs)
These camps are arranged in every Taluka (smaller administrative division of a district) by the Employment Exchanges of the concerned district. In these camps information and guidance regarding self-employment opportunities available through various loan/ subsidy assistance schemes run by different government departments is given to the local job-seekers registered with the exchange. Similarly, guidance is also provided to the job-seeker regarding skill development opportunities in ITIs and other training institutions in the state.
Career Corners
With an object of providing career and vocational guidance to the students and prospective jobseekers, Career Corners have been set up in all the schools and Colleges across the state.
Counselling
Career and Vocational Guidance to the jobseekers is the other most important activity carried out by the employment exchanges.
(B ) For Employers:
As mentioned earlier all establishments having more than 25 or more employees are required to notify the vacancies in their organization to the local exchanges. However, those establishments who are not statutorily obliged to inform the exchanges about the vacancies can have access to the database of the registered job-seekers on this web site.
Employment Marketing Information
Each establishment having more than 25 or more employees is required to submit quarterly returns to the employment exchanges in respect of the men and women employed by it. The aggregate information provides a useful indication to the policy planners regarding the creation or depletion of job opportunities. Using the passwords provided by the local exchanges, the establishments could now submit this information directly on this web site.
